VeteranRoss Hulvey, Jr. Dies At Age 62

Ross Hulvey, Jr., 62, of 2204 Lowell Ave., Springfield, died at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 1985, at St. John’s Hospital North.

He was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Summum, the son of Ross and Stella (White) Hulvey. He married Dorothy Houston in 1951. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, Ross Hulvey III of Springfield; his mother, Mrs. Stella Hulvey of Table Grove; four sisters, Mrs. Lucille Hamilton of Henderson, Ky., Mrs. Robert (Helen) Bubb of Ipava, Mrs. Julie Goodwin of Evansville, Ind., and Mrs. Clifford (Dorothy) Weaver of Table Grove; four brothers, Marshall Hulvey of Matteson, Dean Hulvey of Mt. Sterling, Robert Hulvey of Canton and Michael Hulvey of Troy; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.

A resident of Springfield for many years, he retired from the Springfield Police Department and was in the department’s first K-9 unit. Mr. Hulvey was last employed by the Illinois Department of Revenue in the security division.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Policemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, and Illinois Police Association. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at Staab Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Rominger officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park.
