William Devere “Bill” Etter, 93, of Rushville died at 2:39 p.m. May 29, 2024, at Rushville Nursing and Rehab Center.
He was born June 1, 1930, in Browning, a son of Harold Michael and Viva Wilson Etter. He married Betty Billingsley on Feb. 5, 1955, in Rushville. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Dianna Eifert, Debra Phillips (and Danny) and Cindy McClelland (and Max), all of Rushville; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Etter; and two sisters, Patricia Leverton and Peggy Settles.
Staff Sergeant William D. Etter enlisted in the US Air Force after graduating high school during the Korean War. He served four years as a flight engineer.
He was born into farming and farmed for 57 years with his wife.
He was a member of First Christian Church, Schuyler American Legion Post #4, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and Illinois Sheriff Association.
A funeral service was held Tuesday with Rev. Dan Wise officiating at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville. Private burial was held at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Military Honors.
