Bernard Roger Carr, 82, of Bushnell died July 12, 2024, at his residence.
He was born March 4, 1942, in Avon, the son of Roger Alvin and Cleone Bell Homer Carr. He married Carolyn Kay Zuck in Bushnell on April 22, 1962. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Deann (and Rick) Hall of Astoria and April (and Tony) Tatham of Avon; seven grandchildren, Jacob (and Sami) Roach, Alexis (and Josh Kumer) Roach, Holdyn Yerk, Dawson Hall, Bronson (and Carly) Tatham, Brayden and Gracie Tatham; and five great-grandchildren.
He was born, raised and farmed in the Avon area his entire life. His professional life was spent in the heavy-duty road construction arena. His start in construction began with his father where they built Little Swan Lake in Avon and then Lakelawn Estates in Bushnell where he lived with Carolyn from 1969 until his passing. Much of his career was with McDougal Hartmann in Mossville, where he was responsible for the I74 and I474 projects. He later worked for Gunther Construction in Galesburg and received an award from the State of Illinois for his contribution to the major reconstruction of North Henderson Street. Toward the end of his career, he was actively involved in all the dirt work preparation required to build the EastSide Center Sports Complex in East Peoria. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #649 in Peoria for over 55 years.
He was a commander with the Bushnell American Legion Post #2004 and served on the Veteran’s Assistance Commission of McDonough County (VACMC) for many years, resigning only two weeks ago due to his health.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial service with Military Rites will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Home in Bushnell with Rev. Kurt Ayres officiating.
