Jesse A. Welker Dies At Age 81

Jesse A. Welker, 81, lifetime Astoria area resident, died about noon Monday after a year of failing health.

He was born Sept. 26, 1889, in Woodland Township, a son of George and Alice Farwell Welker. He was married to Iva Ogden on July 20, 1911 in Lewistown. She preceded him in death on Mar. 14, 1938.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Welker and Robert Welker, one daughter, Mrs. Naomi Phillips, all of Astoria; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harley Welker of Astoria. He was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and two sisters.

Mr. Welker was a member of the Summum Christian Church, 50 year member of Astoria Masonic Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory of Peoria.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon in the Shawgo Memorial Home with Rev. James Shirley officiating. Burial will be in the Astoria Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon and evening where Masonic services will be conducted at 8 p.m.
