Alan VanEtten, Lewistown teenager who had been in the intensive care unit of St. Francis Hospital, Peoria, since Aug. 10 when he was accidentally shot, died at 3:15 p.m. Friday.
A son of Franklin and Dorothy (Howe) VanEtten Jr., of 720 W. Ave. D., Lewistown, Alan was 15 years old and would have been a sophomore at Lewistown Community High School. An Explorer Scout, he had long been active in scouting groups. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
He was born Oct. 3, 1949, at Canton, and had lived at Lewistown his entire lifetime.
Besides his parents, he is survived by two younger brothers, Edward and Timothy, and three sisters, Mary Lou, Carrie Lynn and Lorie Lee, all at home.
Also surviving are his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Frank VanEtten, Lewistown, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Howe of Havana.
Henry Memorial Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
