William M. Toland Dies At Age 73

William M. Toland, 73, of Beardstown, died at 3:45 p.m. Friday, July 4, 1975, at Beardstown Hospital.

He was born Jan. 7, 1902, in Schuyler County, a son of Owen and Anna Keeran Toland. He married Velma C. Dodds on Sept. 25, 1929, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Mary Tyson, Patricia Brockschmidt and Sandra Roegge, all of Beardstown; one sister, Edith Trone of Browning; and 8 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Mr. Toland worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Peoria from 1928 to 1943. He was Postmaster at Browning for 12 years, retiring in 1970.

He was a member of Astoria Lodge 100, AF & AM, Rushville American Legion, IOOF Friendship Lodge and National League of Postmasters of the United States of America.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Cline’s Funeral Home in Beardstown with Rev. Earl Stambaugh of the Astoria Assembly of God Church officiating. Pallbearers were Leon Stambaugh, Gene Burton, Dale E. Hall, Bill Callihan, John N. Stambaugh and Willis McCombs. Burial was in the Toland family lot in Browning Cemetery.
