Carolyn Stevens, Wife of Late Ken Stevens, Founder of K.K. Stevens Publishing Company, Passes Away

Carolyn StevensCarolyn K. Stevens, 85, of Canton, formerly of Galesburg, London Mills, Astoria and Fairview, died Feb. 25, 2020, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

She was born March 6, 1934, in Galesburg, the daughter of Charles and Carrie Curtiss Cochran. They preceded her in death. She married Gale Schisler and later married Ken Stevens. They both preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Jill Sherwood and Kim Schisler; one stepdaughter, Karen Stevens Schisler; and one grandson, Aaron Barnes.

Surviving are one son, Kurt Schisler of Canton; two stepsons, Tom (and Ellen) Stevens and Tim (and Jennifer) Stevens, both of Astoria; one stepdaughter, Stephanie (and John) Mann of Astoria; two grandchildren, Elicia (and Justin) Munson of Fairview and Corey Barnes of Peoria; several step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Kent Sherwood; and one stepson-in-law, Wendell Schisler.

She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1952 and attended University of Illinois. She was active in her high school class group. She worked for the Secretary of State for 11 years, K.K. Stevens Publishing (Astoria South Fulton Argus) for six years, Illinois River Correctional Center for 10 years and Henry Hill Correctional Center for two years.

She was active in Democratic politics and was a member of the State and National Democratic Committee. She was a past member of the London Mills Village Board and served on the Fulton County Board. She assisted in starting a Kindergarten class at her church in London Mills and also was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg. She was a reading buddy at the Cook School and volunteered at Cottage Corner. She participated for several years in the Spoon River canoe races.

She enjoyed watching and playing golf and following the Fighting Illini and the Green Bay Packers.

Cremation rites have been accorded through the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton. A Celebration of Life was held Sunday at the Fairview American Legion.
