George Shawgo Of Canton Dies

George Shawgo, 95, of 414 First Ave., Canton, died at noon Monday, Nov. 25, 1985, at Graham Hospital.

He was born April 8, 1890, in Summum, a son of William and Lucinda Cooper Shawgo. He first married Eva Jones in June 1911. She died in 1924. He then married Cora Beaty July 14, 1929. She died Jan. 26, 1973. He then married Lucille Johnson Sept. 7, 1974. She died in 1984.

Surviving are three sons, Keith Shawgo of Bella Vista, Ark., Delbert Shawgo of London Mills, Charles Shawgo of Canton; four daughters, Mrs. Lela Shaw, Mrs. Thelma Starcevich, Mrs. Wilma Long, all of Canton; Mrs. Nelda Brush of Lewistown; 20 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; 12 great, great-grandchildren; and one brother, Raymond Shawgo of Lewistown.

He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four brothers and one sister.

He was a member of Church of the Brethren, Canton, Longview Social Club, Canton, and worked as a school crossing guard for the city of Canton for 20 years.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon at Oaks Memorial Chapel with Rev. Lynn Sifrit officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens.
