Services Held For Alma Shelly

Memorial services for Alma Shelly, 96, were held Sept. 8, 1985, at the Shawgo Funeral Home in Astoria with Rev. Bruce W. Bolin-Ghitalla officiating with burial in the Astoria cemetery.

Alma Shelly was born Aug. 31, 1889, in Schuyler County, a daughter of Samuel Perry and Lutitia Workman Fisher and died at 6:00 a.m. Sept. 6, 1985 at Myers Nursing Home in Beardstown.

She married Harry Shelly on Nov. 1, 1911. He preceded her in death. She is survived by a niece, Mrs. Verne (Lulu) Williams of Beardstown, who as a small child became a part of the Shelly home and reared as their own daughter. Mrs. Shelly was cared for in the home of Lulu and Verne Williams nine years prior to her brief stay in the nursing home.

Mrs. Shelly was the last survivors of seven children. Preceding her in death were the following sisters: Mrs. John (Millie Jane) Ray, Miss Estella Fisher, Mrs. Louise Graubner, Mrs. Cleve (Hattie) Bohls, Mrs. Karmy (Nellie) Kays, and one brother, Joseph Fisher.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Shelly was a teacher for many years in various schools throughout the area. She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Sheldons Grove.
