John E. “Gabe” Russell, 70, of rural Astoria, died at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 1985, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Born Aug. 10, 1915, in Havana, he was a son of John J. and Florence Stills Russell. He married Shirley Farwell Jan. 9, 1960, in Havana. She survives.
Also surviving are his parents of Havana; two sons, Jack of Bath and Bill of Chandlerville; one stepson, Rick Hamm of Astoria; one stepdaughter, Marsha Bair of Astoria; one half brother, James Russell of Pittsfield; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was a member of Assembly of God Church in Havana and the Chandlerville Lodge AF&AM. He was a retired engineer with the Ohio River Company.
Cremation rites were accorded.
