Robert Allen Pilger Sr., 76, of Browning died at 4 a.m. May 10, 2025, at St John’s Hospital in Springfield.
He was born Dec. 8, 1948, a son of Russel and Frances Hopping Pilger. He married Phyllis Ann Robertson on Oct. 4, 1975, in Astoria. She survives.
Also surviving are four children, Karen (and Steve) Davis, Diana Davidson and Robert Jr. (and Anna) Pilger, all of Astoria, and Christy (and Karl) Hall of Browning; two brothers, Steve Pilger of Havana and Russell (and Sheila) Pilger of Peoria; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Clara Mae, Jean and Judy; one brother, Bill; and two grandchildren, Rj and Kaylynn.
He retired from Oscar Mayer/Excel after over 35 years.
He dedicated many years to serving the City of Browning as a volunteer firefighter, managed the waterworks, and maintained Browning township cemeteries.
He was a member of Browning Christian Church.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home with Pastor John Plunkett officiating. Burial will be in the Browning Cemetery.
