Everett “Warren” Potter, 83, of Lewistown died Dec. 10, 2024, in Altoona, Wis., after a fall and a long hospital/nursing home stay.
He was born April 2, 1941, in Rockford, Ill., the son of Everett Charles and Hazel Aimee Boomer Potter. He married Rita Irene Salyers on June 18, 1966, in Newton. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Dr. Jon Warren Potter (and Rachel) of Eau Claire, Wis., and Dr. Benjamin “Kyle” Potter and (Dr. Michelle DiVito) of Philadelphia, Pa.; one sister, Mary “Karen” Valentine of Milford, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Brennan of Farmington and Ella, Scarlett, Hazel, James, Flora and Easton of Philadelphia and Luke and Rowan of Eau Claire; and one step grandchild, Erica Bree Hartel of Eau Claire.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Julia Ann Sharp; and one son, Everett “Luke” Potter and daughter-in-law Angela Marie Stufflebeam Potter.
He graduated from Winnebago High School in 1959 and Eastern Illinois University in 1963 with a BS in Ed in Biology (botany) and with a MS in Biology in 1963.
He had many occupations over his lifetime, including teacher, junior college administrator, small-time farmer, insurance salesman, over-the-road semi driver, paramedic and telemetry tech at Springfield Memorial Hospital from which he retired.
He was a former Fulton County Board member, a former Lewistown Chamber of Commerce President, and President of the VIT School Board when the present grade school was built. He was an active member of Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown where he served as a trustee. He was on the Lewistown Fire Department for 12 years. He was a 33rd degree Mason.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
