Bruce Pickering, Ipava, Dies

Bruce Pickering, 75, of Ipava, died Monday afternoon at St. Marys Hospital in Galesburg where he had been a patient for the past three weeks. Mr. Pickering was a retired Fulton County and state highway maintenance man.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Ipava Presbyterian Church with the Rev. W. R. Giffin officiating. Burial will be in Ipava Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening at Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava. Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

He was born Oct. 13, 1889 in Farmers Township, Fulton County, the son of Ellsworth and Effie Fordyce Pickering. He was married Feb. 22, 1909 to Anna McCamant. She died July 15, 1965. Mr. Pickering was a member of the Ipava Masonic Lodge, Ipava chapter of OES and Pleasant Township precinct committeeman.

Surviving are a son, Carl Pickering of Prairie City; five daughters, Mrs. Ruth Ebbert, Mrs. Essie Brock, and Mrs. Anna Lee Derry of Ipava; Mrs. Mary Reneau of Abingdon; and Mrs. Alice Weese of Boulder, Colo.; and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Barker of Bushnell. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. One sister died previously.
