He was born Jan. 20, 1951, in Canton, a son of Edward and Dortha Slaight Oest. He married Nancy Welker on Feb. 12, 1999, in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.
Also surviving are four children, Jason (and Holly Gudat) Oest, Jimmy Oest, Jon (and Staisha) Oest and Emma (and Michael) Coleman; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Rick Oest; and one sister, Linda Oest.
He worked for the Department of Natural Resources as Site Superintendent at Anderson Lake until his retirement in 2012.
A memorial service was held Friday, May 29 at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. A Celebration of Life and burial will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made in Ed’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or donor’s choice of organization.
