Mother, Daughter Killed In Accident

Beula B. Kettering, 81, of Polk, Ohio and her daughter, Talitha Loraine Mills, 53, of Hagerstown, Md. died unexpectedly Monday, Aug. 12, 1985 as a result of an automobile accident in Ashland, Ohio.

Beula Belle Kettering was born Oct. 1, 1903, in Astoria, a daughter of George and Leah Bucher Stambaugh. She married Warring C. Kettering on June 1, 1927. He preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 1966.

She was an elementary school teacher, retiring in 1972. She was also a member of Maple Grove Brethren Church, where she was active as a deaconess, Sunday School teacher, a member of the Women’s Fellowship and many of the church boards.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. David (Marilyn) Badger of Galloway, Ohio; four sons, Delbert W. Kettering of Walbridge, Ohio, George F. of Ashland, Ohio, Merlyn H. of Takoma Park, Md., Daniel C. of Polk, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; one brother, Mark Stambaugh, of Missouri; seven sisters, Clara Klinedinst, Esther Kessler, Mabel Bowman, all of Astoria, Verna Duke of Richmond, Ind., Naomi Saffin of Toledo, Ohio, Faith Blair of London, Ohio, and Georgia Page of Arizona.

Friends may call at the Gilbert-VanHove Funeral Home Thursday afternoon and evening. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Maple Grove Church with Rev. Paul Myers officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Brethren Disaster Fund.

Talitha Loraine Mills was born Oct. 9, 1931, in Ashland, Ohio, a daughter of Warring C. and Beula B. Stambaugh Kettering. She married Rev. John B. Mills Oct. 3, 1953, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Caroline Eigenbrode of Waynesboro, Penn.; one son, John Curtis, at home; four brothers, Delbert W. Kettering of Walbridge, Ohio, George F. of Ashland, Ohio, Merlyn H. of Takoma Park, Md., Daniel C. of Polk, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. David (Marilyn) Badger of Galloway, Ohio.

She was employed at the Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown. She was a member of the Washington Brethren Church.

Friends may call at the Gilbert-VanHove Funeral Home Thursday afternoon and evening. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. James Brethren Church in Hagerstown, Md. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland Seminary Student Aid Fund.
