BERT MORAN

Bert Moran Of Table Grove Dies

Bert Moran, son of Samuel and Adda (McDonald) Moran, was born near Macomb, on May 7, 1894, and died at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, at 5 p.m. on Sept. 18, 1975, following major surgery on Sept. 8.

He was married on Jan. 25, 1916, in Galesburg to Maude Walker, who survives. Three children were born to this union, Helen Irene and Lester Merle, who died in infancy and Mrs. Sheldon (Betty) Batterton of Table Grove.

His early life was spent on a farm near Colchester, later moving to Macomb, where he was employed by the Midway Oil Company. In 1936, the family moved to Table Grove, where they operated a restaurant for many years.

Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by two granddaughter, Mrs. Dan (Nancy) Hickman of Macomb and Mrs. Randy (Connie) Connour of Peoria; one stepgranddaughter, Mrs. Larry (Janice) Fisk and four step-great-granddaughters, all of Vermont.

His parents, two children, one brother, Glen and a step-grandson, Phil Batterton, preceded him in death.

Bert was well known and respected by all. He was a kind husband, a devoted father, and grandfather and a good neighbor and friend.

He was interested in young people, not only his own grandchildren, but youth in general. Through many years, the B and M Cafe was a favorite place for the boys and girls to gather where they received kindness, understanding and encouragement. Evidence of their concern was shown when the Fawcett family moved out of the community. Their son, David, remained with the Moran family where he was treated as a son and brother and was able to complete his high school education here.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Table Grove Community Church with Rev. Carl Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery at Colchester.
