W. O. Merrill Dies At Age 99

William Oliver “Oll” Merrill, 99, lifetime Astoria area resident, died at 5:10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1975, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Nov. 9, 1875, at Astoria, a son of William H. and Mary E. McClung Merrill. On Mar. 18, 1900, he was married to Margaret A. “Peggy” Lowe. She preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 1961.

Survivors include one son, William Lowe Merrill, of Astoria; two granddaughters, Miss Portia Merrill of Springfield and Mrs. Roger (Pat) Bucher of Rochester, Ill.; and two great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were one daughter, one granddaughter, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Earl Travis of the Astoria Bible Church officiating. Pallbearers were Ralph Lewis Danner, Charles Myers, Cecil Royer, Max Workman, Russell Riebling and Charles Leib. Mrs. George Fisk served as organist. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery.

Oliver Merrill Dies In Hospital

Oliver “Oll” Merrill, lifetime Astoria area resident, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 5, 1975 in Culbertson Hospital in Rushville. Mr. Merrill had been in failing health for several years.

Survivors include one son, William Merrill of Astoria; two granddaughters, Miss Portia Merrill and Mrs. Patsy Bucher, and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are pending at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria.
