Ellis Mummert Dies At Age 85

Ellis H. Mummert, 85, of 29 E. Hickory St., Canton, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, in Graham Hospital, after an illness of several months.

An area resident since 1917, Mr. Mummert was employed by International Harvester Co., retiring May 28, 1951. Born in Woodland Township, Sept. 10, 1880, he was a son of George and Elizabeth (Bricker) Mummert. On Nov. 17, 1911, he was married at Havana to Helen Carter, who survives.

Surviving are six children, Mrs. Margaret Smith and Russell Mummert, both of Canton; Mrs. Melba Barkley and Mrs. Barbara DeFord, both of Peoria; Mrs. Wilmadene McLaren, Knoxville; and George Mummert, Indianpolis, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were a son, Guy, two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Murphy Memorial Home in Canton, with Rev. Dale R. Wellbaum, pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
