An employe of Chicago Aerial Survey Co. was electrocuted on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1975, when he touched a live wire while working east of Marbletown.
The victim was identified as John Lichter, 23, of Elk Grove Village, a Chicago suburb, according to Fulton County Coroner George Kauzlarich.
Kauzlarich’s inquest determined Lichter touched the line with the end of a survey rod he was carrying at about 7:30 a.m. Lichter’s coworker, party chief Humberto Vasquez, 45, put Lichter’s body into a truck and took it across the river to Mason County.
Lichter was pronounced dead on arrival at Mason District Hospital.
The survey team was working on a levee on Anderson Lake, along Rt. 100 in Kerton Township. The inquest report said the survey was being done for the Illinois Conservation Department, which is considering building a park in the area.
