VeteranBeverly Long Of Canton Dies

Beverly Long, 52, of 1864 East Chestnut St., Canton, was killed Monday, Mar. 31, 1975, when his motorcycle went out of control on a curve and ran off a blacktop road four miles east of Canton.

Mr. Long, an employe of the International Harvester Co., died of a neck fracture and internal injuries, according to George Kauzlarich, Fulton County Coroner.

Kauzlarich said Mr. Long and the motorcycle were found on the shoulder of the road in the opposite lane of traffic about 290 feet from where he ran off the road.

The motorcycle was airborne for at least 60 feet, Kauzlarich said.

Mr. Long was found by Gerald Schrodt, Canton Route 3, who reported the accident at about 4:15 p.m.

Kauzlarich said an inquest will be scheduled.

Mr. Long was born Sept. 5, 1922, in Astoria, a son of James D. and Helen D. Farrow Long. He was married to Bernita Westerfield on June 18, 1949, in Canton. She survives.

Also surviving are his parents of 1468 East Chestnut St., Canton; a son, Kenneth Long of Canton; a daughter, Martha Long, at home; and a twin sister, Miss Betty Long, also of Canton.

Mr. Long was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church where he was Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He was a tool maker at International Harvester Company for 33 years and was a member of UAW Local 1145. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home with Rev. Dean Austin officiating.

Mr. Long will be remembered by several here. His grandmother was the late Nellie (Shawver) Farrow of Astoria.
