Charles F. Kirkbride, 89, of Vermont died at 5:36 p.m. June 5, 2024, at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield.
He was born April 23, 1935, in Vermont, the son of Henry and Gladys Horwedel Kirkbride. He married Charlene “Sarge” Manuel on Dec. 12, 1964. She preceded him in death on Jan. 25, 2020.
He also was preceded in death by one sister, Connie Kennedy.
Surviving are three daughters from previous marriages, Cheryl Kirkbride of Keokuk, Iowa, Diana Akers of Quincy and Glenda Tillman of Colorado; two stepdaughters, Vickie (and John) Ruppel of Beardstown and Patsy Reedy of Ipava; one stepson, Jeffrey “Kim” Cable of Astoria; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He served in the United States Army.
After his service in the Army, he went on to work at the Vermont Foundry in Vermont. He later worked at International Harvester in Canton and Navistar in Indianapolis, Ind., for many years.
He was a member of Browning Church of Christ and the South Fulton Tractor Club.
A graveside service was held Monday in the Vermont Cemetery with John Ruppel officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
