VeteranFred Gunter, Jr. Dies At Age 52

Fred E. Gunter, Jr., 52, of Astoria, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1975, at Culbertson Hospital in Rushville following an illness of several months duration.

He was born in South Bend, Ind., Jan. 28, 1923, a son of Fred E. and Coila Lawson Gunter, Sr. He married Estyl Danner Nov. 19, 1949, at Rushville. She survives.

Other survivors include his mother, of Browning; four sons, Daniel, of Astoria, Tim, Tom and Jim, all at home; one granddaughter; two sisters, Mrs. Emily Huntington of Astoria and Mrs. Jane Clark of South Bend, Ind.; and two brothers, George Gunter and Carl Gunter, both of Highland, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters.

Mr. Gunter was a World War II veteran. He was a member of Astoria Masonic Lodge 100, American Legion Post 125, Astoria Fire Department and Local 1337, United Mine Workers.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Mike Hargrave officiating. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery. Masonic rites were held on Saturday evening at 8:30 p.m. at the Memorial Home.
