Mrs. Nettye Gain Dies In Macomb

Mrs. Nettye Gain, 63, wife of Frank Gain, 803 S. Pearl St., Macomb, died at 9:15 Monday night at McDonough District Hospital where she had been a patient since July 16. She had been in poor health nine months and seriously ill the past two months.

Mrs. Gain, who was supervisor of case workers in the office of the Illinois Department of Public Aid in Macomb, had been employed in that office the past 17 years.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Clugston Funeral Home, the Rev. Cecil Swindle officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Gain was born Nov. 10, 1901 at Pratt, Mo., to Enoch B. and Leona Rice Johnson. The family moved from Missouri to Blandinsville when she was about 10 and she resided there until 1919, when she moved to Astoria. She had lived in Macomb since 1938.

Mrs. Gain was a past matron of the Eastern Star Chapter of Astoria and was a past president of the Macomb Business and Professional Women’s Club. She also was a member of the Macomb Christian Church and the church guild, the Grandmothers Club, Entre Nous Club, state and national public welfare associations, and was a graduate assistant for the Dale Carnegie courses.

She and Frank Gain were married June 4, 1921 at Macomb. He survives with two sons and a daughter, Phillip Gain of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Schreiber of DeKalb, and James Gain, Macomb; six grandchildren; one step-grandson; and one brother, Ralph Johnson of Estes Park, Colo. One sister died in infancy.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Wednesday and until time of services. Those who care to do so may make memorial contributions to the cancer fund.
