William Falkenstein, 93, of Belvidere, formerly of Astoria, died at 12:05 a.m. Thursday in Maple Crest Nursing Home, Belvidere.
He was born Sept. 8, 1872, in Astoria, a son of B. G. and Sarah McClung Falkenstein. He married Sarah Danner May 2, 1897, in Astoria, and she preceded him in death. They operated a hardware store in Astoria until 1946 when they retired and moved to Belvidere.
Surviving are a son, Harold of Belvidere; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Six brothers, two sisters and one daughter died earlier.
Mr. Falkenstein was a member of Astoria Methodist Church, where he served as a board of trustees member and was secretary and treasurer.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Witbeck-Wheeler-Sabien Funeral Home, Belvidere, with the Rev. Hayes Fletcher officiating. Burial was in Highland Garden of Memories in Belvidere.
