He was born Dec. 5, 1949, in Macomb, a son of William “Bill” and Margaret Dallman Dean. He married Carol A. Christ on March 25, 1977, in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Melissa (and Andrew) Williams of Inman, S.C., Lacy (and William “Bill”) Sego of Canton and Courtney Dean of Palm Harbor, Fla.; one sister, Kathryn (and Bob) Bridges of Astoria; one brother, Scott (and Brenda) Dean of Astoria; and five grandchildren, Andrew “Drew” (and Elizabeth) Williams, Ella Williams, Wyatt Sego, Garrett Sego and William “Will” Sego.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Deanna Jo Dean; and stepfather, Willard France.
He attended Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo., where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business. He was Office Supervisor at Public Finance before becoming the Business Office Manager at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg. He farmed for over 50 years.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana and the Rushville Saddle Club.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Micah Garnett officiating. Visitation will take place from 9-10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the Astoria Cemetery.
Memorials in Steve’s memory may be made to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.
