Table Grove Man Dies In Crash

A Table Grove resident, Ira L. Dilts, 40, was fatally injured in a fiery one car crash just west of Table Grove Thursday night, Oct. 2, 1975.

The accident occurred at 11:15 p.m. on a blacktop road, one mile west of Table Grove.

According to the Illinois State Police report, Dilts was eastbound on the blacktop when his car went off the road into a ditch and became airborne, traveling approximately 415 feet before striking a culvert. After striking the culvert, the car catapulted into the air, landed on its top and burst into flames trapping the victim, the report stated.

The Table Grove Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene to extinguish the blaze.

Mr. Dilts was born Mar. 3, 1935, in Canton, a son of Wesley and Ollivene Rock Dilts.

He is survived by his mother; two brothers, Raymond of Smithfield and Dane of Farmington; and one sister, Alemeda Mason of Marietta. His father died earlier.

Mr. Dilts was employed as a truck driver.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Marietta Cemetery with Rev. Robert Holler officiating.
