Mrs. Mary Derry, 32, Dies Following Six Weeks Illness

Mrs. Mary Derry, 32, of Vermont, died about 9 o’clock Wednesday evening in the Graham Hospital in Canton, following an illness of six weeks.

This is the lady about whom we published an article that funds were needed to help defray her hospital expenses. A fund was started by her friends in Vermont by the Vermont Woman’s club to help the stricken family and a fund of over $1,000 was raised.

Born in Peoria on Jan. 4, 1923, a daughter of William Ernest and Mable (Bandy) Largent, she was married in Missouri on May 18, 1938 to Robert Eugene Derry, who survives. She was a member of the Presbyterian church.

Mrs. Derry is survived by four children, William Eugene, Robert Ernest, Marcia Ellen and Sandra Arlene, all at home; two sisters, Mrs. Eileen Mattingly of Bellvue, and Mrs. Vivian Hopper of Peoria; two brothers, Harold F. Largent of Canton, and W. Douglas Largent, Abingdon, and a half-brother, Jack Ray of Peoria. Her father preceded her in death.

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock in the Presbyterian church at Ipava, by the Rev. Edgar Mills. Burial in the Ipava cemetery.
