Johnnie L. Cripe, 86, of Springfield died June 25, 2024, at St. John’s Hospital.
He was born Aug. 18, 1937, in Bader, a son of Wilmer C. and Wilma Wise Cripe. He married Joan E. Kruse on July 9, 1960. She preceded him in death on Sept. 26, 1995. He then married Dolly A. Turner on June 26, 1997. She preceded him in death on Nov. 6, 2018.
Surviving are two daughters, Jean (and Michael) Knoedler and Jonnell (and Fred) Baskett, both of Springfield; one brother, Dean (and Barbara) Cripe; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He graduated from Astoria High School, where he lettered in baseball, football, basketball and track. He went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army. As an entrepreneur, He owned J.C. Gun Smithing and Cripe Office Machines, both in Springfield. He was a member of Elm Street Christian Church and led multiple home Bible study groups. He also was a long-time member of the Abe Lincoln Gun Club.
A funeral service was held July 3 at Elm Street Christian Church with Pastor Michael King officiating. Burial was in Ashland Cemetery. Butler Funeral Home in Springfield was in charge of arrangements.
