Earl M. Coleman, 79, of 401 N. Illinois St., Lewistown, died at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 1985, at Mason District Hospital, Havana.
He was born Sept. 26, 1905, in Reno, the son of Charles and Lula (McKinzie) Coleman. He married Noi Koontz June 5, 1926, in Greenville. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Roy of Lewistown; two brothers, Raymond and Cecil, both of Panama; four sisters, Fay Coleman of Donnellson, Ethel Brown of Collinsville, Opal Patton of Orlando, Fla., and Bessie Bertolett of Carlinville; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
He was the owner and operator of the Hotel Spoon River for 32 years, a past mayor of Lewistown from 1965 to 1969, and a former deputy coroner of Fulton County. He was also a member of the town fire department, the Kiwanis Club, the Masonic Lodge 104 AF&AM, an Eastern Star Past Patron and the Alligator Club.
He was president of the Fulton County Fair Board and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewistown.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Henry Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. James Friedmeyer officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Masonic services were held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Henry’s.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church renovation fund.
