Mrs. Portia Carter, 84, of Canton, formerly of Ipava, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 11, 1985, at Graham Hospital in Canton.
She was born Sept. 14, 1900, in Winchester, the daughter of Charles R. and Edith (Langford) Coultas. She married Orlie E. Carter Feb. 6, 1921. He died Jan. 23, 1969.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Esther McNaughton of Peoria and Mrs. Eleanor Sandidge of Canton; one brother, Julian Coultas of Canton; and three great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, one stepdaughter and one step-granddaughter.
She was a member of Ipava United Presbyterian Church and was a life member and past worthy matron of Ipava Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She and her husband operated Carter Drug Store in Ipava for more than 50 years.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Ipava United Presbyterian Chuch with Rev. A. R. Juterbock officiating.
Ipava Chapter Order of the Eastern Star conducted services at graveside in the Ipava Cemetery.
