Richard Johnson Cox Jr., 66, of Route 1, Adair, was pronounced dead on arrival at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb at 11:10 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 1975.
According to Coroner Dr. Donald Dexter, Cox died as a result of an apparently self-inflicted .22 rifle gunshot wound in the mouth.
Mr. Cox was born June 2, 1909, at Putnam Co., Ind., the son of Richard and Pearl Sines Cox. He married Helen Louise Ellis, April 20, 1952, at Indianapolis, Ind. She survives.
He was a retired farmer, a member of the Moose Lodge and the Christian Church of Indiana. He resided in the Macomb area for the past 25 years.
In addition to his widow he is survived by five children, Susan Marie Cox of Adair, Angela Joyce Wilke of Mt. Sterling, Clara Elizabeth Case of Indianapolis, Lillian Mae Williams of Indianapolis, and Richard Johnson Cox Jr. of Indianapolis; a stepson, Robert Lee Huston of Knoxville; two granddaughters; two stepgrandchildren and a brother, Hobert Cox of Indianapolis, Ind.
Funeral services were to be held at 11 a.m. this morning at Sargent Funeral Home in Macomb with Rev. Dan Rebman officiating. Burial was to be in Oakwood Cemetery.
