David Eldon Cox, 27, of Rock Island, died at 12:10 a.m. Monday, May 19, 1975, in Franciscan Hospital in Rock Island County, of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Rock Island authorities said Cox was the former manager of the South Wind Motel in Rock Island where he was found by the present manager. Police said Cox was lying on his back in his apartment at the motel with a .25 caliber pistol nearby.
He was born in Macomb on Sept. 23, 1947, a son of Paul and Florence Evelyn Kalebaugh Cox. He married Linda Graham on March 25, 1966. His parents were former Vermont residents.
Surviving are two sons, Michael and Brian, both of Zion; his father; one sister, Mrs. Dorla Stewart of Pittsfield; and one half-brother, Charlie Beck of Leon, Iowa. One sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon at Kost Memorial Home in Vermont with Rev. Carl H. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Vermont Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) at the Memorial Home.
