He was born Jan. 16, 1951, in Canton, a son of Junior and Mae Hamm Batterton. He married Phyllis Shanks on June 2, 1973, in Astoria. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, James (and Stephanie) Grossnickle-Batterton of Lititz, Pa., Andy (and Virginia Bolt) Batterton of Summum and Molly (and Dustin) Curless of Astoria; one brother, Bill (and Mona) Batterton of Astoria; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He worked at Astoria Fibra-Steel. He then was a welder at L and N Industries in Rushville for over 40 years. He also farmed.
He was a member of the Summum Fire Department and the Astoria Saddle Club.
Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Rick’s son, Jim Grossnickle-Batterton, officiated. Burial was in the Summum Cemetery.
