Harvey William Brinton, 96, of Quincy, formerly of Galesburg and Vermont, died at 9:44 a.m. Aug. 10, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
He was born Feb. 14, 1928, in Vermont, a son of William Brinton and Vera Bucy Brillhart. He married Dorothy Wenstrom on May 25, 1953, in Knoxville. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, William Michael (and Angela) Brinton of Inverness, Fla., Cynthia (and Richard) Iannaci of Jacksonville, Fla., and William Kent (and Karen Cook) Brinton of Brentwood, Tenn.; two sisters, Leona Dorothy and Mary Root; one half sister, Patricia (and Ken) Weaver; one half brother, Caleb (and Teresa) Brinton; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Smith and Norma Standard.
He was a veteran of World War II. He joined the U.S. Navy shortly after turning 17. As a Seaman 2nd Class, he was on the U.S.S. L.S.T #172 in August of 1945, preparing for the invasion of Japan. After his dedicated service, he returned to Illinois and began a career as a union bricklayer. He worked as a bricklayer for over 50 years, retiring when he was 78. He was a lifetime member of the Bricklayers Union Local No. 6 in Peoria.
Funeral services honoring Harvey’s life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Triplett and Wood Funeral Home of Rushville with Pastor Charla Meyers officiating. Burial will follow at the Rushville City Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the United States Navy and The Schuyler American Legion Post #4. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials in memory of Harvey may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to First Lutheran Church of Galesburg.
