Nellie Baumgartner Of Peoria DiesNellie Baumgartner Of Peoria DiesMrs. Nellie Baumgartner, 78, of 4707 N. Clarewood Ave., Peoria, died at 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 1985, in Methodist Medical Center, Peoria, after having been a patient for nine days.
Born in Fulton County on March 4, 1907, she was a daughter of Charles F. and Alice (Brooks) Smith. She married Herbert Baumgartner in Peoria on Feb. 15, 1964.
She was a member of the Bryant United Methodist Church and the Friendship Club of the First Christian Church, Peoria. She served as a staff sergeant in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II.
Surviving, besides her husband, are two stepsons, James Baumgartner of Marquette Heights and Jerry Baumgartner of Decatur; a stepdaughter, Joanne Hose of Winnebago; nine step-granddaughters; five step-grandsons; and a sister, Mrs. Cecil L. “Gertie” Grove of Canton.
She was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Memorial services were held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Cumerford-Endsley Memorial Home, Peoria, with Chaplain Howard B. Johnson and Dr. Paul J. Clark officiating. Burial was in Summum Cemetery.
