Charles H. Bucy Of Astoria Dies

Charles H. Bucy, 86, of Astoria, who was born in Pleasant Township, Fulton County, on April 24, 1898, passed away March 13, 1985, at his home.

He is survived by his wife, Lena Grissom Bucy, whom he married on Oct. 16, 1918 in Lewistown and their two daughters, Mrs. Rosalie Scrogum and Mrs. Eloise Workman, both of Astoria.

Also surviving are one grandson, Terry Scrogum of Springfield; one brother, Boyd Bucy of Vermont; two sisters, Dorothy Hughes and Vera Brillhart, both of Rushville; eight half brothers, Otis Bucy of Springfield, Wayne Bucy of San Diego, Calif., Ansel Bucy of Silvis, Henry Bucy and Eldon Bucy, both of Vermont, George Bucy of Beardstown, Claire Bucy of Claypool, Ariz., John Bucy of Astoria, and two half sisters, June McCormick of Vermont and Betty Ricketts of Scottsdale, Ariz.

Charlie farmed a short time then worked for the Postal Service for 35 years. He owned and operated Bucy Transfer for several years and drove a school bus for the Astoria School District for 27 years. He helped build the Astoria Mausoleum from start to finish in the 1920’s. He served on the Astoria City Council for 18 years and never missed a meeting.

Charlie attended and was baptized at the Union Chapel Church north of Astoria, a Methodist circuit, and later renewed his faith in the Lord under the leadership of Rev. H. L. Leu of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Astoria.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Bruce W. Bolin-Ghitalla officiating. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery.
