VeteranAlbert Britton Found Dead

Albert “Bud” Britton, 65, of rural Astoria, was found dead at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 1975, in the PAG seed corn plant at Astoria. He was a former Peoria resident.

Mr. Britton was employed as a night watchman at the plant and apparently suffered a heart attack shortly before he was found, according to George Kauzlarich, Fulton County Coroner.

He was born Oct. 10, 1909, in Peoria, a son of Edward and Kate Phillips Britton. He married Evangeline Dutlinger July 11, 1939, in Burlington, Iowa. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Kathern) Reed of Peoria and Mrs. Thomas (Patricia) Matheny of Dodge City, Kan.; a son, George E. Britton of East Peoria; a brother, Robert Britton of Peoria; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Britton was an Army veteran of World War II. He was employed by Peoria Water Co., retiring in 1970, and was a member of Laborer’s International Union, Local 165.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at Gauss Memorial Chapel in Peoria with Rev. Larry Kirk officiating. Burial was in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
