James “Ed” Coats
He was born Dec. 15, 1950, in Jacksonville, a son of the late Albert Coats and Evelyn Butcher. He married Cynthia Louise Harper on June 29, 1991. She preceded him in death on Sept. 7, 2022. He also was preceded in death by his chosen father figure GC Spangenberg; one brother, Frank Coats; and one nephew, Butch Coats. Surviving are one son, Jason Chute; three daughters, Marcy Coats, Andrea Chute and Erika Palsen; one sister, Alberta Gebhardt; and 12 grandchildren. He was a postmaster at Rushville and Arenzville. Cremation has been accorded. At Ed’s request, there will be no services and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements. James Edward “Ed” Coats, 74, of Rushville died Dec. 1, 2025, at his home.
