Norma Brown

Norma BrownNorma Lee Brown, 93, of Carthage died at 6:30 a.m. Nov. 3, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage with family at her side.

She was born May 13, 1932, at home in rural Astoria, the daughter of Sheldon and Ruby Webb Stremmel. She married Charles D. Brown on Dec. 22, 1951, in Canton. He preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Teresa Geissler and Sheila Prior; and two brothers, Richard and Dennis Stremmel.

Surviving are two children, Barton (and Mary) Brown of Canton and Stacey Sparrow of Carthage; one brother, Roger Stremmel of Canton; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Farmington High School in 1950. In her earlier years she worked at the Overall Factory in Canton, until she was needed to stay home to raise her children. As the children grew older, she worked in the Canton School District cafeteria as a server for a few years. During this time, she also served as a timekeeper for the Fulton County Silver Gloves Boxing Association for competition fights. Later in life, she spent time as a daycare provider.

She loved the church and was very strong in her faith. She is a member of Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church near Astoria for many years. After moving from Canton, to Carthage, she routinely attended Providence Primitive Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Carthage Newcomers Club for numerous years.

A funeral service was held Tuesday at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Burial followed at Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage. A memorial fund has been established.
