Jerry BattertonGerald “Jerry” Batterton, 83, of Canton died Aug. 8, 2026, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 7, 1942, in Astoria, a son of Cecil and Evelyn Watson Batterton. He married Joyce Fray on Feb. 6, 1965, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are two children, Michael (and Jeanie) Batterton of Bloomfield, Iowa, and Michele (and Atoya Jones) Batterton of Canton; two brothers, Kenny (and Judy) Batterton of Canton and Bob (and Joyce) Batterton of Farmington; one sister, Mary Lou Isbell of Canton; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Batterton.

He worked for Labor Local Union 231 of Pekin. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton.

Cremation rites have been accorded through Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton.

Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton where visitation will be held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. with a Rosary at 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Canton. A luncheon will follow in the Parish Hall.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Food Pantry.
