Rick Powell
He was born May 24, 1953, in Rushville, a son of the late Richard “Dick” and Myrna Wanda Gorsuch Powell. He married Nancy A. Martin on June 30, 1974, in Rushville. She preceded him in death on Aug. 30, 2014. Surviving are his companion, Barb Tolle; one son, Rusty Powell (companion Kara) of Rushville; one daughter, Buffee Powell (companion Skyler) of Camden; one brother, Rex Powell (and Kay) of Rushville; one sister, Mitzi Kruse (and Mike) of Rushville: and one grandson, Ridge Merrick. He was preceded in death by one brother, Rodney Powell; and one infant grandson, Huck Legend Martin Merrick. He graduated from Rushville High School with the class of 1971. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local Union #965 for 51 years. He started his apprenticeship in 1974 and completed in 1978 and became a full-time operator. He owned and operated Powell’s Bulldozing for 20 years while also working out of the union hall and several other jobs. He retired in 2014. He was member of the Camden Masonic Lodge No. 648 AMFM, Scottish Rite of Quincy, Rushville Moose Lodge #506 and Abate of Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, June 19, at the Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville. Burial will follow at the Gray Cemetery.
