Robert AdkinsRobert D. Adkins, 92, of Astoria died at 12:08 a.m. Jan. 11, 2026, at The Elms in Macomb.

He was born May 22, 1933, a son of Jody Carroll Adkins Sr. and Gladys Adkins Davis Adkins. He married Margie Mae Altig on March 26, 1955, in Indiana. He later married Janet Hibbert on Oct. 30, 1987. She survives.

Also surviving are four children, Robbie (and Monica) Adkins of Astoria, Craig (and Laura) Adkins of Kokomo, Ind., Brian (and Stephanie) Adkins of Norman, Okla., and JoLynn Adkins of Summum; four brothers, Jody Adkins and Ray Adkins, both of Astoria, and Danny Adkins and Leroy Adkins, both of Havana; five sisters, Roberta Lowe of Rushville, Rosemary John of Macomb, Joyce Ishmael of Oakford, Pelles Kelley of Petersburg and Christy Yow of Chatham; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Jennifer Huston and Lynn Bojarzin; two brothers, Gary Adkins and Arlie Adkins; and one sister, Judy Lynn.

He first worked at an area sawmill when he was in high school. He then enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1950-53. He was a Korean War Veteran. After his time in the Army, he went to work for Boeing in Seattle, Wash., Sprinkman Insulation in Peoria, International Harvester in Canton, Peabody Mining Co. in Pleasant View, owned and operated Adkins Welding in Pleasant View, Norris Farms in Havana, Brazier Mine Construction, owned and operated Point Of Rock Café in Point Of Rock, Wyo., Elko Gold Mine in Elko, Nev., L and N Industries in Rushville and the Woodland Township.

He was baptized as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Services will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 17, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. A visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday before the service.
