VIT Schools Prepare for Next YearVIT Kindergarten Registration Round-Up to be Held March 25Kindergarten registration for children of VIT Community Unit School #2 will be held at VIT Elementary School on Thursday, March 25, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Children age 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2010, are eligible for Kindergarten during the 2010-11 school year. It is important all Kindergarten children register on this day so the district can plan for the coming year. There will be two classes of Kindergarten. Parents and children will have the opportunity to meet the Kindergarten teachers and visit a classroom. Each child will receive a free gift. Parents are required to bring a copy of their child’s certified birth certificate. This must be the birth certificate from the courthouse of the county the child was born in. (The certificate from the hospital no longer meets the state requirements.) In addition, parents will be given a physical form to be completed by a doctor before entry into Kindergarten. The requirements of up-to-date immunizations include DPT, Polio, MMR boosters after age 4, series of Hepatitis B, varicella (chicken pox) and a diabetes and lead screening. Kindergartners also are required to have a dental and eye exam. It is imperative parents concerned their child is not ready for Kindergarten discuss this with Mr. Newman, school psychologist, or with Mrs. Banach, Kindergarten teacher. All children registered on March 25 at the “Round-up” will receive a free ticket for admission to the Preschool/Kindergarten Penny Carnival to be held Thursday, April 15, at VIT Elementary School. Only registered Kindergartners will be invited to attend. (Preschoolers who attend Preschool Screening will receive their free admission tickets at the time they are screened.) If you know of someone who is eligible for Kindergarten next year, remind them of preregistration on March 25. If you have questions, contact the school office, 309-758-5138. * * * VIT Pre-K Screening to be Held March 31VIT Pre-K Screening will be held Wednesday, March 31, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at VIT Elementary School. Children living in VIT CUSD #2 District, age 3 or 4 and will not be 5 by Sept. 1, 2010, should be screened. Early Beginnings Birth to 3 will be available to screen children up to age 3. Parents will have the opportunity to meet with school staff members to discuss screening results. Fulton County Health Department will check hearing and vision. VIT School provides two half-day pre-K programs. Test results, as well as other information obtained from the screenings, will be used to identify children eligible for the pre-K program. A parent or guardian should accompany the child to gain important background information. |
